Alchmund of Derby

Alcmund of Derby also Alcmund of Lilleshall, other spellings Ealhmund, Alhmund and Alchmund († 800 ) was the son of a king of Northumbria, and became a martyr and saint.

Alcmund Ealchred was the son of the king of Northumbria who was deposed by the Witan, and probably fled to the Picts. After more than 20 years in the Pictish exile Alcmund led an army into Northumbria. He was killed by 800, for which Eardwulf was blamed. How exactly he is involved in this case, has not yet been clarified. Alcmund any case became known as martyrs and venerated as a saint.

His feast day is March 19.
