Alcides Arguedas

Alcides Arguedas ( born July 15, 1879 in La Paz, † May 6, 1946 in Chulumani ) was a Bolivian writer, politician and historian.

Life

Alcides Arguedas was born on July 15, 1879 in La Paz. He studied law and political science in La Paz and later in Paris sociology. In several diplomatic trips he represented Bolivia in the UK, France, Spain, Colombia and Venezuela. In addition, he was a member (1916 ), Senator (1940 ) and at times also Minister of Agriculture.

All his life he watched very closely the customs and cultures of the plateau in the Andes, his work is concerned with the fate of the Indian population. He pursued racist- evolutionist theses, according to which the indigenous population must be separated from the non-Indian and was rather negative for the country's development.

On May 6, 1946, he died in Chulumani ( Yungas ).
