Aldan, Russia

Aldan (Russian Алдан ) is a city in the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in Russia with 21,275 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

Aldan is located in Aldanhochland, about 470 km southwest of the capital of Republic of Yakutsk on the river Orto- Sala, which empties into the right Aldan Creek Seligdar. From the river Aldan even the city is about 30 km away.

The city is the administrative center of the Aldan Rajons same ( Ulus ).

Aldan is a railway station on the leading of the Baikal- Amur Mainline after Tommot Amur Mainline Yakut (continuation to Yakutsk under construction). The city also lies on the highway M56 (Lena ), connects the Newer at the Trans-Siberian Railway with Yakutsk, also it has an airport.

History

Aldan was built in 1923 after the discovery of rich gold deposits by the Yakut prospectors M. Tarabukin and the head of the Goldsucherartels W. Bertin as a settlement with mine at first eponymous creek Nesametny (Russian Незаметный for inconspicuous, hidden). In 1939, the city under its present name the town charter.

Economy

Aldan is the center of südjakutischen mining area with gold and mica promotion. In addition, there are plants for metal working and wood and building materials industry.
