It has an area of 31.7 km ² and has 441 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the northeast of the district on the south bank of the Barragem de Castelo do Bode. Neighboring municipalities are Souto in the northeast, São Vicente in the east, Rio de Moinhos in the south and Martinchel in the West. In the southeast of the municipal boundary is also the county boundary to the circle Constância, in the north the border to the county Tomar.

History

The place was probably made before the 18th century. Originally name was Aldeia da Mata and derives from the vast forest areas of the region. For a long time formed the surrounding olive groves and pine forests, the economic base of the town. With the construction of Barragem de Castelo do Bode in 1951 disappeared the fields in the floods.

Culture and sights

Local saint is Mary Magdalene. Your feast is celebrated every year on the last weekend of July.
