Aldein

Aldein (Italian Aldino, in dialect Fåldein ) is a municipality with 1674 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the lowlands in South Tyrol (Italy). It is located south-east of Bolzano, on the high plateau of Regglberg. It consists of the villages Aldein Radein and Get.

Economically important also handicrafts and tourism are in addition to agriculture (also because of the proximity to the ski center Jochgrimm ).

History

Aldein belonged to the end of the First World War to the judicial district of Neumarkt in Tyrol and was part of the district of Bolzano.

Attractions

In nearby, but on Deutschnofen municipality, the monastery of Maria White Stone is ( 1553).

A special attraction is the Geoparc Bletterbach under the white horn. The Bletterbachschlucht since June 26, 2009 Part of the World Heritage of UNESCO. The visitor center is located near Aldein, the geological museum in Oberradein.

Personalities

Aldein is the birthplace of Luis Lintner (1940-2002), a South Tyrolean missionary who was murdered on 16 May 2002 in Brazil, and by Cardinal Johann Franzelin ( 1816-1886 ).

Other personalities from Aldein are the priests and teachers Florian Pitschl, Alois Gurndin and Martin Lintner.
