Geography

Geology

The place was the Aldenhovener the name plate. It is a branch of Jülich flange and is bounded by the river valleys of the Rur, the Inde and the Wurm. Fertile loess overlies the gravel of the main terrace.

History

In Siersdorf, the second largest district of the municipality, are the ruins of the former German Order of the Teutonic Knights Coming Siersdorf. Erected in 1580 construction of the main house was badly damaged in World War II and not yet rebuilt. The neighboring Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist was even partially destroyed, but rebuilt and completed by an extension. On 1 January 1972 Aldenhoven came to the district of Düren, the district court Aldenhoven was dissolved. At the same time the church was enlarged by the inclusion of the previously independent places Dürboslar, angel village, Freialdenhoven, Niedermerz, Pattern of Aldenhoven, Schleiden and Siersdorf.

Coat of arms

After the entry into force of the local reorganization on August 10, 1972, the Council of the Municipality Aldenhoven decided the continuation of the coat of arms of the former Office Aldenhoven as a new coat of arms. With certificate from the provincial government on 8 February 1973, the coat of arms of the new community Aldenhoven was approved.

The coat of arms description reads: "Divided; top in gold (yellow), a blue lily; down in black and a floating golden (yellow ) cross within a silver ( white ) laurel wreath. "

The crest is a heraldic composition of the coat of arms of the former independent municipalities Aldenhoven Siersdorf and Freialdenhoven. It shows only half the field up into a blue gold glaive from the previous coat of arms Aldenhovens. Even in the oldest seal of the aldermen present-day central location, two stars and two glaives ( lilies) as a symbol of the Mother of God.

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

From 1952 to 1992, the main employer was the coal mine " Emil Mayrisch " in Siersdorf, which in its heyday had over 4000 employees. Shortly after the mine closure also beside it coal-fired power plant (150 MW) has been decommissioned and dismantled. Thus, the pit was one of the last of the Aachen coalfield.

Aldenhoven had earlier Aldenhoven the train station, which was demolished in 1985 and on its grounds stands the fire station today. Recovery

The Blaustein, an artificial lake on the territory of the neighboring town of Eschweiler, formed by the filling of an open-cast mine hole with surface water.
