Alderano Cybo

Alderano Cibo (* July 16, 1613 in Genoa, † July 22, 1700 in Rome ) was a cardinal from the family Cibo - Malaspina.

Life

Cibo, a descendant of Pope Innocent VIII, came at a young age to Rome and was under Urban VIII papal prelate. His successor, Innocent X appointed him in 1644 to the papal majordomo.

In the consistory of March 6, 1645, the Pope Cibo took as Cardinal Priest of Santa Pudenziana to the College of Cardinals. In the following years he represented the interests of the pope as a papal legate at Urbino, Romagna and Ferrara. Cardinal Cibo took part in the 1655 conclave that elected Pope Alexander VII.

Alexander VII appointed him on April 24, 1656 Bishop of Jesi. About his episcopal ordination is not known. Cardinal Cibo took part in the conclave in 1667 and was in the following year Cardinal Priest of Santa Prassede. From 1669 to 1670 he took part in the election of Clement X.. On December 10, 1671, he resigned as Bishop of Jesi. Pope Innocent XI. Cibo appointed after his election in 1676 to the Cardinal Secretary of State. In 1677 he became cardinal priest of San Lorenzo in Lucina and Cardinal Proto priest. On February 6, 1679 took him Innocent XI. as Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina in the series of cardinal bishops, the following year he showed him to the diocese of Frascati. In 1683 he appointed him secretary of the Holy Office and the Cardinal Bishop of Porto- Santa Rufina. 1687 Cardinal Cibo finally Cardinal Dean and therefore also Cardinal Bishop of Ostia - Velletri. He took part in the conclave in 1689 and 1691 and died in 1700, a week after his 87th birthday.
