Aldo Clementi

Aldo Clementi ( born May 25, 1925 in Catania, † March 3, 2011 in Rome) was an Italian composer. He wrote stage, orchestral and choral works, Electronic Music, vocal and chamber music.

Clementi studied from 1938 to 1946 piano with Giovanna Ferro and finished his piano training in 1947 at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena at Pietro Scarpini. He also took lessons in composition with Alfredo Sangiorgio (1943-1948) and Goffredo Petrassi ( 1952-1954 ). In 1954, he obtained a diploma composition at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. 1956 to 1962 he worked at the Studio di fonologia musicale of RAI in Milan. During this time he attended Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt and 1961/62 composition courses with Karlheinz Stockhausen in Cologne. Clementi taught from 1971 to 1992 as a professor of composition at the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna and at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan.
