Aldo Romano

Aldo Romano [ aldo romano ], originally [ roma ː no] ( born January 16, 1941 in Belluno ) is an Italian jazz drummer.

Life and work

Romano, who grew up in France, began his career as a guitarist. It was not until the early 1960s, he moved under the influence of Art Taylor on drums and soon entered Paris jazz club with musicians such as Bud Powell, Jackie McLean, Jay Jay Johnson, Stan Getz and Kenny Drew on.

In 1964, he came as Jean -François Jenny -Clark in the free jazz group by Bernard and François Vitet Tusques and worked in the result, inter alia, with Don Cherry ( and in the group with Gato Barbieri and Karl Berger), as well as with Kent Carter, Michel Portal and with Carla Bley, Steve Lacy and Enrico Rava. With Joachim Kühn, but also in the jointly established with Jasper van't Hof, Charlie Mariano and Philip Catherine 1974 group Pork Pie he devoted himself to jazz rock. He also worked with Dexter Gordon, Jean -Luc Ponty, Phil Woods, Keith Jarrett and Steve Kuhn. In 1977, he took with J.-F. Jenny -Clark in Italy Cesare Pavese dedicated album.

Since 1980, Romano was more common with François Jeanneau, René and Enrico Rava Urtreger. Particularly noteworthy is the existing for more than ten years, trio with Louis Sclavis and Henri Texier, which is after his first CD ( 1994) also called Carnet De Routes. In 2004 he was awarded the highly doped Jazzpar Award; founded especially for this occasion Aldo Romano Jazzpar Quintet 1 with Stefano Di Battista, Mark Turner, Henrik Gunde Pedersen, Jesper Bodilsen and singer Susi Hyldgaard occurred in three small Danish cities and at the final handover of the Jazzpar Prize in Copenhagen. In the same year came with Emmanuel Bex, Emanuele Cisi, Francesco Bearzatti, Rémi Vignolo and the sample and programming artist Naab Album Because Of Bechet.
