Alejandro Magariños Cervantes

Alejandro Magariños Cervantes ( born October 3, 1825 Montevideo, † 1893 in Rocha ) was a Uruguayan politician, writer, university teacher and lawyer.

Life

Magariños Cervantes, who graduated in law in Spain and with the graduation, returned to a subsequent lengthy trip to France in 1855 back to Uruguay. In the same year he began as a lawyer working and was Consul General of Buenos Aires. A year later his return to Montevideo after him President Bernardo Prudencio Berro was appointed prosecutor. After the victory of Venancio Flores in the Assembly of 1865, however, he decided again to Buenos Aires to emigrate. But under the presidency Lorenzo Batlles he returned again to his home and took over after his appointment, the Minister of Finance. At the same time he began at the Law Faculty of the Universidad de la República his lecturer. Of 14 January 1869 to 12 March of the same year he led for a few weeks, the Foreign Ministry in his home country. In 1878, during the reign of Lorenzo Latorres he was then rector of the Universidad de la República and held this position until 1880. Finally, he had held a seat in the Senate until his death in 1893. In addition, he was one of the most important Uruguayan writer of the 19th century.
