Alejandro O'Reilly

Alejandro O'Reilly (* 1722 in Ireland, † 1794; native Alexander O'Reilly ) was the second Spanish governor of colonial Louisiana and practiced as the first Governor of the Territory of power.

The Irishman came as mercenaries in the Spanish army and reached there quickly higher ranks. 1765 sent the Spanish crown him as Marshal to Puerto Rico, there to organize the military. O'Reilly, who is regarded as the "Father of Puerto Rican military ", the troops brought in locally discipline, which helped them in future engagements to fame.

1769 O'Reilly was appointed governor of Louisiana. As leader of the Spanish army, he led a retaliatory strike against those who were responsible for the expulsion of Governor Antonio de Ulloa from the colony. Upon his arrival in New Orleans, the capital of the colony, O'Reilly Louisiana declared in August 1769 Spanish possession.

In the city he is because of the executions of six prominent French in October 1769 today as " Bloody O'Reilly ." He established a Spanish colonial government, which replaced the French structures. After completing his mission, O'Reilly was replaced in March 1770 as governor.
