Alekos Alavanos

Alexandros " Alekos " Alavanos (Greek Αλέκος Αλαβάνος, May 22nd, 1950 in Athens ) is a left-wing Greek politician.

Life

Alavanos studied economics. From 1981 to 2004 he was a deputy in the European Parliament. In 2004 he became a deputy in the Greek Parliament. From 2004 to 2008 he was a successor to Nikos Konstantopoulos Party Leader of the Greek party Synaspismos and from 2007 president of the alliance SYRIZA. He was succeeded by Alexis Tsipras.

2011 Alavanos left the party Synaspismos and was co-founder of the left-wing party Front of solidarity and change.

Alavanos criticized the course of SYRIZA, although fights austerity to tackle the financial and economic crisis, however, to remain in Greece in the Euro occurs. In April 2013, he called the new party Schedio B ("Plan B) to life. The new party wishes to rely on those Greeks who advocate a withdrawal of their country from the euro zone. Alavanos is married to Aikaterini Charalambaki and has two children.
