Aleksandar Hemon

Aleksandar Hemon ( born September 9, 1964 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian - American writer.

Hemon came in 1992 on a scholarship in the United States. After the outbreak of war in Bosnia, he got asylum. He lives in Chicago and is married to a U.S. citizen. He writes in English.

In his works there are often autobiographical elements, so is his character Jozef Pronek, in The Question of Bruno and Nowhere Man appearing, a native of Sarajevo U.S. immigrants in Chicago. In the novel, Lazarus, in which the story of the 1908 shot in Chicago Jewish immigrant Lazarus Averbuch is reconstructed, wearing Hemon's literary alter ego named Vladimir Brik.

In 2004 he was MacArthur Fellow.
