Aleksandar Wohl

Alexander welfare ( the World Chess Federation FIDE Aleksandar H. welfare; born July 21, 1963) is an Australian chess player. Since 1994, he has the title of International Master.

Life

Well has the Australian nationality but was born in the former Yugoslavia and grew up in Austria. He studied at the Prirodoslovno - matematički fakultet ( PMF) in Zagreb geology. He caused a sensation when he in eleven days by bicycle and tent the distance between Trondheim and Tromsø laid back in 2010 to participate in the local Artic Chess Challenge tournament. The most important time of his chess career, he referred to the time when Tony Miles was his guest in the 1990s, six months. During this time, his playing strength increased from 2200 to 2400 Elo. After living for some years in France, he currently resides in Byron Bay, Australia.

Achievements

1991/92 he won the Australian Individual Championship, the Australian Open singles championship he won in 2009. In 2000, he won the oceanic zone tournament in Auckland with 7.5 points from 9 games and one point ahead of Zhao Zong -Yuan. He qualified with this victory for the World Championship 2000 in New Delhi, left there, however in the first round against Alexander Galkin from.

For the Australian national team, he played in six Chess Olympiads: 1992, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2012, where he had his best result at the 2006 Olympics in Turin: With an Elo performance of 2649, he scored on the first reserve board seven points from eight games.

In chess club he is a member of the SK Weilheim in Germany. In Austria he first played for the Innsbruck SK, from 2006 onwards Zirl and from 2010 for the SC Kroell technique Schwaz. In the Four Nations Chess League he played for Slough.

His Elo rating is 2369 (as of December 2012), so it is on the 12th place on the Australian Elo ranking. The previous highest Elo rating was 2461 Alex welfare in July of 2000.
