Aleksander Barkov, Jr.

Aleksander Barkov (Russian Александр Александрович Барков / Alexander Alexandrovich Barkow; * September 2, 1995 in Tampere ) is a Russian- Finnish professional ice hockey player who plays since September 2013 in the Florida Panthers National Hockey League on the position of the center. His father Alexander Barkov was also a professional hockey player.

Career

Barkov came in Tampere, Finland and grew up there as well, since his father Alexander between 1994 and end of his career in 2004, was active for Tappara Tampere. During this time, Aleksander Barkov learned to play hockey in the Junior Section of the Club.

Even as a 15 - year-old he was in the squad for the U20 selection of the club on the ice and drove in 25 games with 17 points scorer. On October 1, 2011 Barkov was at the age of 16 years, his debut in the SM- liiga. He became the youngest player of all time, who managed to record a point scorer in the top Finnish league by a Torvorbereitung. For the 2012/13 season Barkov finally stood firmly in the squad the team and was with 48 points from 53 games the second best scorer of his team. In 2013 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected in the first round in second place of the Florida Panthers.

For NHL season 2013/14 Barkov moved to North America where he received immediately secured a place in the squad of the Panthers. During his NHL debut on October 3, 2013 against the Dallas Stars, he also scored his first goal. With an age of 18 years and 31 days Barkov was the youngest NHL scorer since the 1943/44 season.

Internationally

Barkov came between 2009 and 2012 in all the junior teams of the Finnish Ice Hockey Federation to inserts. For the U20 Junior World Championship 2012 in Canada, he was first nominated for an international tournament and was 16 years old by far the youngest player of the Finnish squad. In the same year he graduated from the U18 World Youth Championship, where he finished fourth with the U18 selection of his home country. At the Olympic Games in 2014 he won the bronze medal with the Finnish national team.
