Aleksander Warma

Aleksander Warma ( Varma ) (*. Junijul 10 / June 22 1890greg in the village Viinistu community today Loksa, County Harju County, Estonia; . † 23 December 1970, Stockholm, Sweden) was an Estonian politician and exile from 1963 to 1970 Head of State the Republic of Estonia in exile.

Youth, Training and Study

Aleksander Warma hired himself from 1907 to 1914, with interruptions as a fireman, sailor and helmsman on merchant ships. In World War I he was employed from 1914 to 1918 in the Russian navy. With the founding of the Republic of Estonia in 1918 he embarked on a career in the Estonian Navy. He studied at the navigation schools Käsmu and Narva and put 1920 in Riga Maritime his exams from.

From 1920 to 1924 he studied law at the University of Tartu. In 1928 he was Master of juris. 1920-1924 he worked alongside his studies on the staff of the Estonian Navy. 1924 to 1926 he worked as a lawyer in the Estonian Ministry of Defence, 1926/27, in the Legal Department of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from 1927 to 1931 as head of Central dortiger. 1931-1933 Aleksander Warma was transferred to the Embassy in Moscow and was from 1933 to 1938 Estonian Consul General in Leningrad. 1938/39, he was Estonian envoy in Kaunas and from 1939 to 1944 in Helsinki.

Exiled politicians

With the occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union Aleksander Warma emigrated into Swedish exile. In the Estonian government in exile, he was from 1953 to 1962 worked as a foreign and court ministers and 1962/63 as deputy prime minister with the duties of a Secretary of State. From 30 March 1963 until his death on 23 December 1970, he was Minister President with the duties of the president and head of state of the Republic of Estonia in exile.

In 2002 his body was reburied on the forest cemetery of Tallinn and was buried next to his wife Marta.

Aleksander was Warma carrier Estonian (award in 1920 and 1938), Latvian (1931 ), Finnish (1931 ) and Russian (1915 ) Order.
