Aleksandr Gorbatikov

Alexander Valeryevich Gorbatikow (Russian Александр Валерьевич Горбатиков; born June 4, 1982 in Volgograd, Soviet Union ) is a former Russian handball player who has been mostly used on the position back center of the room.

The 1.87 m wide and 95 kg Gorbatikow began his professional career in 1999 at Dinamo Astrakhan. From 2001 to 2008 he was runner-up behind Russian Medwedi Chekhov, he also reached the final of the EHF Cup 2002/ 03, but it lost to FC Barcelona. In the seasons 2003/ 04 and 2004/ 05, he reached the semi-finals in each of the EHF Cup, but failed on THW Kiel and TUSEM food. In 2008 he won the Russian Cup. After several knee surgeries, he finished his career after the 2008 /09 season.

With the Russian youth team, he won the European Junior Championship in 2001 and the Under-21 World Championship 2001, where he scored 9 goals in the final. At the 2004 Olympics in Athens he won the bronze medal with the Russian national team.

Alexander Gorbatikow is physical education teacher and graduate of the State Pedagogical University Astrakhan. Beginning of 2014 he enlisted in the run-up to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, the Olympic torch in Astrakhan.
