Aleksandr Ivanov (wrestler)

Alexander Nikolayevich Ivanov ( born January 10, 1951 at Rajon Suntar, Yakut ASSR, Soviet Union) is a former Soviet wrestler and silver medalist at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal in free style flyweight.

Career

Alexander Ivanov, a Russian from Yakutia, began in 1963 with the rings. The Kazakh city of Alma- Ata, the coach Dimitri Korkin and Fyodor Matuschak led him into the world elite in free style. But because of the strong competition that prevailed at that time among the wrestlers in the former Soviet Union, it took until 1976 before Alexander came to its first use in an international championship. These were equal to the Olympic Games in Montreal. Alexander was able to convince at first there. He won six fights and was defeated only in the final to the then seemingly invincible force multiple Japanese world champion Yuji Takada. For his good services he was rewarded with the silver medal.

Also at the European Championships in 1977 in Bursa Alexander did very well. He won here four fights, but lost again in the final, this time the German Reich Hartmut from Jena. At the World Championships the same year in Lausanne Alexander was defeated in his second fight back against Yuji Takada and in his third fight even the Bulgarians Nermedin Selimow, which he had just been defeated yet at a tournament in Tbilisi. He therefore had to make do with 10th place.

In the Soviet Union began in 1978 then the great age of the brothers Beloglasow ( Anatoly and Sergei ). Alexander Ivanov was therefore not used in international championships more.
