Aleksandrovac

Aleksandrovac (Serbian Александровац [ alɛksandrɔvat͡s ] ) is a town in Serbia, having about 6476 residents. It is the seat of Opština Aleksandrovac in Okrug Rasina. The city is an administrative, industrial and cultural center of the known as Zupa Aleksandrovacka area.

Archaeological excavations date the first settlement to the 4th century BC. The first mention of the name comes from the year 1196, at that time as Kožetin. 1882 requested the residents at King Milan I. a name change in Aleksandrovac.

Aleksandrovac is nationally famous mainly by long tradition in viticulture and fruit growing. Since 1963, every year at the end of September, the festival Zupska Berba, which is dedicated to growing grapes. One of the first Serbian specialized for wine and fruit growing middle schools was founded in 1927 in Aleksandrovac and even then had high education and innovation standards.

The industry of the city is also marked by vineyards and orchards. So Vino Zupa is now one of the largest and most successful Serbian companies in the field of manufacturing of various wines and fruit juices.

The Serbian tennis player Ilija Bozoljac was born in Aleksandrovac.
