Aleksandrs Cauņa [ t͡sɑu'ɲɑ ] ( born January 19, 1988 in Daugavpils ) is a Latvian football player. Currently, he is awarded Skonto Riga to Russia to CSKA Moscow.
Cauņa began his career in the youth of his home club Dinaburg Daugavpils. At the age of 14, he was obliged by the Latvian record champions Skonto Riga. In Riga he went through all the youth teams of the club, before he was awarded second Latvian league to the smaller Olimps Riga 2006. In Olimps he had his breakthrough. He scored five goals in one half and topped with Olimps the end of the season in the Virsliga.
In the summer he was brought back as a result of his original club, where he matured into a performer. Despite three strong seasons of Cauņa him a title win was denied. In February 2009 he joined on loan in the Football League Championship for Watford FC. Previously, he had completed a trial at Chelsea, who wanted to sign him for his reserve - team. During the tryouts, he had noticed the Watford - leaders who offered him the prospect of A- team football.
After his move he had to wait until April 2009 before he could complete his first mission from the start for Watford. In the match against Southampton FC, he scored a goal with a volley, which added in the English press for attention. Previously, he had his own words matching problems with the physical game in England, which he played only a brief appearance for Watford until April. The debut over 90 minutes followed by three short assignments. At the end of the loan period, it was decided - also due to a high demand release of discount - to fulfill an obligation of Cauņa.
Since other deals failed to materialize, he returned for the 2009/10 season to Latvia to discount back.
On 1 February 2011 Cauņa signed a contract on loan at CSKA Moscow.
After strong performances at club Cauņa was first appointed to the national squad of Latvia 2007. On his debut he came June 2, 2007 to qualify for the 2008 European Football Championship in the 0-2 loss against Spain.
Recently he made in the qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa for a stir when he against Switzerland scored the meantime 1:1 in the 2-2 per shot.
