Aleksey Khomyakov

Alexei Stepanovich Khomyakov (Russian Алексей Степанович Хомяков, scientific transliteration Aleksej Stepanovic Chomjakov; * 1 Maijul / May 13 1804greg in Moscow, .. .. † 23 Septemberjul / October 5 1860greg Ivanovskoe, Ryazan province ) was a Russian poet, publicist, theologian and philosopher. He was a member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Science and is considered one of the founders of Slavophilism.

Life

Khomyakov was born into an old noble family. He received his education at home. In 1821 he was at the Moscow University of the exam for the doctorate in mathematics. At this time, poems and translations have already been printed by him.

Having to 1825 he performed his military service in the years 1822, Khomyakov moved abroad, where he occupied himself with painting and the historical drama Jermak wrote ( Ермак ).

In the years 1828 and 1829 Khomyakov took part in the Russian-Turkish war. After the end of which he retired from the military and went to his estate. He worked with various journals. In Article About Old and New ( О старом и новом ) in 1839, he laid the foundations of Slavophilism. In 1838 he began work on his historical- philosophical masterpiece contributions to world history ( Записка о всемирной истории ).

In the peasant question, against the death penalty and regarding freedom of speech Khomyakov represented liberal views. Since 1850, he devoted religious issues and the history of Russian Orthodoxy special attention. The monarchy saw Khomyakov as the only acceptable form of government for Russia.

While he healed farmers in times of cholera epidemic, fell ill and died Khomyakov 1860 in his native village. He is buried in Moscow.
