Aleksis Dreimanis

Aleksis Dreimanis ( born August 13, 1914 in Riga, † July 8, 2011 in London, Ontario ) was a Latvian geologist who looked at as a high school teacher in Canada especially with the Quaternary.

Life

After studying geology at the University of Latvia in Riga Dreimanis 1939 there lecturer. During the Second World War, he was also adviser responsible for Quaternary pictures at the Latvian Institute of mineral resources and made beyond voluntary service in the Latvian Legion, a Latvian SS Association. After the war he became associate professor of Baltic University in the Displaced Persons camps in Hamburg and Pinneberg.

In 1948, the emigration of Dreimanis to Canada, he took there to a position as a lecturer at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Western Ontario. During his local teaching, he dealt in particular with the Quaternary geology and became internationally to a recognized expert on glacial deposits in Canada.
