Aleksotas

Aleksotas ( German: Alexoten, older also: Ellixeten ) is a district in Kaunas, Lithuania, on the left bank of the Nemunas River. The old town of Kaunas can be reached via the Aleksotas Bridge. To the west of Aleksotas is Marvelė, Julijanava south, east Freda.

In the 1990s, the new St. Casimir's Church was built in Aleksotas, which replaced a timber of 1921.

In the area of the district is home to the S. Darius ir S. Girėnas Aerodrome, the Science and Technology Park " Technopolis " and the glass factory UAB " Kauno stiklas ". Among the cultural institutions including the Cultural Aleksotas and the Lithuanian Aviation Museum Lietuvos Aviacijos Muziejus.

The 1.03 -acre Jewish cemetery was built in the 19th century.

Sons

The physician Oscar Minkowski (1858-1931) and his brother, the mathematician and physicist Hermann Minkowski (1864-1909), were born here.
