Alemitu Bekele Aga

Alemitu Bekele (* August 22, 1976 ) is a Belgian long-distance runner of Ethiopian origin.

In 1997 she won the Tiberias Marathon and came in the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Athens on the 44th. The following year, she won at the World Cross Country Championships in Marrakech on the short distance to 17th place and won with the Ethiopian team silver. In the World Half Marathon Championships in 1999 in Palermo, they came on the 36th.

In 2000, she requested asylum in Belgium. In 2001 and 2002 she won the Bruges - Marathon and the 2002 Baden- Marathon. 2003 and 2006 was followed by victories at the Maas Marathon, 2005, she was fifth at the Amsterdam Marathon.

In 2007 she received the Belgian nationality. The following year she was national champion in the 10,000 m, half marathon and marathon. The overall third in the Eindhoven Marathon, she also became Benelux Marathon champion.

2009, she finished fourth at the Zurich Marathon and 2010 Seventh at Hamburg Marathon.
