Alemitu Bekele Degfa

Alemitu Bekele Degfa ( born September 17, 1977 in the province of Shewa ) is a Turkish middle and long distance runner of Ethiopian origin.

In the field of youth, she launched several times at World Cross Country Championships.

In 1999, she moved to Turkey. There they acquired Turkish citizenship by marriage and took the last name Çolakoğlu.

After a hiatus of several years, in which she had become a mother, she returned back to the 2008 competition events and qualified for the Beijing Olympics, where she finished in seventh place over 5000 meters.

The following year she won at the European Indoor Championships in Turin gold over 3000 meters. At the World Championships in Berlin she left more than 1500 meters in the flow and came over 5000 meters on the 13th Place.

In 2010 she presented over 5000 meters on a European Indoor record and was over 3000 meters at the World Indoor Championships Fifth in Doha. At the European Championships 2010 in Barcelona, she won in the final over 5000 meters gold medal and set 14:52,20 min with a new European Championship record.

Because doping or doping tried but was blocked by the IAAF in 2016, with all results retroactive to August 17, 2009 deleted, so that they also lost their European title.
