Alen (unit of length)

Alen or Aln is a traditional Scandinavian unit of length similar to the German Elle.

This gives 1 alen about 60 cm. The Danish and Norwegian alen corresponded to a length of 62.77 cm, the Swedish alen a length of 59.38 cm.

  • Iceland Alen 1 = 252.964 = 0.570643 meters Parisian lines
  • Norway Alen 1 = 2 Fod = 0.6275266 meters
  • Denmark 1 Alen / Aln = 278.25 Parisian lines = 0.625 meters

This Alen were quarters, eighths, and so on divided in half. Alen was always twice the measure of the foot.
