Aleppo Vilayet

The Vilayet of Aleppo (in Turkish Halep Vilâyeti ) was established in 1864 in the province of the Ottoman Empire, which existed on the territory of present-day Syria and the Turkish province of Hatay. It had an area of ​​86,600 km ².

The provincial capital of the vilayet was Aleppo. The vilayet was built during the Teşkil -i Vilayet Nizamnâmesi administrative reform mentioned. It existed until 1920, when the area transformed into the League of Nations Mandate for Syria and Lebanon after the First World War France.

The Vilayet consisted of the following Sandschaks:

  • Halep
  • Ayıntab
  • Urfa
  • Maras

Population

In 1914, 576 320 inhabitants were Muslims, but it was before the great Greek persecution and non-Muslim minorities: Among them were 40,843 Armenians and 21,954 Greeks.
