Ales Michalevic

Ales Mikhalevich (White Russian Алесь Міхалевіч; born May 15, 1975 in Minsk) is a Belarusian politician.

Life

From 2004 to 2008 Mikhalevich was vice chairman of the liberal conservative party BNF. At the presidential elections in Belarus in 2010 he stood as a candidate. On election night, 20 December 2010, Mikhalevich was arrested by the Secret Service at his home and released from prison until 19 February 2011. At a press conference following the release from prison Mikhalevich spoke about the torture-like conditions of detention and announced that he only owes its freedom to the fact that he had committed against the Belarusian KGB to work as an informant. He was, however, only pretended this, and had intended from the outset to disclose the required IM activity immediately after his release.

The Belarusian security forces let it be known to Michalewitschs testimony given to he possessed video recordings that showed the opposition politicians in how this information about him in prison pass on well-known foreign diplomats and joking in the harmonious management of the correctional officers. Mikhalevich even considered this claim as part of a smear campaign against him and described it in the core as groundless.
