Alessandro Leopardi

Alessandro Leopardi (* around 1466 in Venice, † 1523 ) was an Italian architect, sculptor, engineer and goldsmith.

Leopardi first worked on the coin and then turned to the bronze casting. 1492 he poured the huge equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleonis of Andrea del Verrocchio. Later he worked with Antonio Lombardo at the tomb of Cardinal Zeno in San Marco ( 1503-04 ) and created the ornate bronze base for the flagpoles at St. Mark's Square. Leopardi's major work is the Basilica of Santa Giustina in Padua, which was not completed until after his death.
