Alessandro Nesta ( born March 19, 1976 in Rome ) is a retired Italian footballer.
Career
Association
Alessandro Nesta grew up in the southern suburb of Cinecittà Rome. His nine years older brother Giuseppe played two years at Milan, though not as successful as his brother.
Since his youth, Nesta played for Roman football club Lazio. His father insisted that his son did not play for city rivals AS Roma, although the talent scouts of the family made a tempting offer, because the whole family were Laziali, trailers Lazio Rome. Under Lazio coach Dino Zoff Nesta made his Serie A debut against Udinese Calcio in 1994. His importance to the team steadily increased, so that he was named in the 1997/98 season to the team captain. Nesta played 193 games in Serie A for Lazio.
From the season 2002/ 03 Nesta played for AC Milan and made up to the end of his career with Paolo Maldini 's central defense, the Berlusconi clubs. Nesta's contract at AC Milan ran until 2012.
In July 2012, Nesta moved to Montreal Impact in the North American MLS.
In the national team he formed with Fabio Cannavaro and Paolo Maldini at AC Milan with Thiago Silva and one of the best center-back duos in the world.
National
In the U-21 Euro 1996, Nesta won the title with the trained Cesare Maldini Italian selection and was named the best defender of the tournament.
It was soon followed by his participation in the European Championships in England, this time with the senior team. Nesta, who had graduated to date, no senior international, was appointed Arrigo Sacchi of EM in the squad, but did not in the tournament are used. On 5 October 1996, he finally made his debut under Cesare Maldini against Moldova.
In 1998, Alessandro Nesta with Italy at the World Cup in France in part. There he suffered in the third group match against Austria a cruciate ligament injury and then fell out for months. This was followed by participation in Euro 2000, where he was appointed to the UEFA All Star Team and European vice- champion. Also at the 2004 World Championships in 2002 and the European Championship was Nesta in the squad.
In the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Nesta injured after a strong performance in the third round match against Czech Republic and was not fit to the finals again. Winning the World Cup represents his greatest success with the national team
Early August 2007, just two weeks after the resignation of Francesco Totti, also announced Nesta, no longer wanting to play for the Azzurri. The reasons he gave to the double burden of club and international matches, but it was speculated that disputes between him and coach Roberto Donadoni were the real reasons for his resignation. The earned on 11 October 2006 3-1 win against Georgia was thus the last international Nesta.
