Alessandro Poglietti

Alessandro Poglietti (* first half of the 17th century; † July 1683 at Vienna ) was an organist and composer of the Baroque, whose origin could not be clarified contain it.

Life

At least since January 1661, he worked as an organist, first with the Jesuits, from the middle of the year until his death as a chamber and court organist at the Imperial court under Leopold I. For the presumption Poglietti come from Tuscany, there is no evidence. Some evidence suggests, despite his Italian name, a birthplace in Moravia, as Johann Gottfried Walther wrote in 1736 in his "Musical Lexicon ": " He should have been a Teutscher ". At the court, as well as in the wider vicinity (in Kremsier and Kremsmuenster ) he seems to have enjoyed some prestige, so in particularly by its onomatopoeic musical settings.

On the run from the besieged by the Turks city Poglietti was killed in July 1683 by enemy hands, his family was captured.

Works

He composed mainly for keyboard instruments, along with some ensemble and choral works as well as the theoretical work "Compendium " have received. Of particular note are Rossignolo a broad suite including Toccata, Ricercar, variations and caprices, and his collection of twelve strictly contrapuntal Ricercari. Outstanding examples of his onomatopoeic compositions for harpsichord are the Toccatina sopra la Rebellione di Ungheria ( 1671), the Toccata sopra fatta Cassed di Filipsburgo ( 1676 ) and the Capricietto sopra il cucu ' Il Rossignolo ' ( 1677).

After his death, especially his contrapuntal works were received wider.
