Alessandro Stradella

Alessandro Stradella ( born April 3, 1639 at Nepi Viterbo, † February 25, 1682 in Genoa ) was an Italian violinist, singer and composer.

Life

He was the scion of a noble Roman family and a great singer. In Rome he worked together with his friend Carlo Ambrogio Lonati at the court of Christina of Sweden. He was a very sought-after artist in Florence and Venice and graduated appearances in many royal houses, but also appeared as a singer of sacred music in appearance. Stradella led an adventurous life and had to leave because of his antics both Rome and Venice. Finally, this way of life, he was in Genoa undoing, here he was probably murdered because of a love affair to a student from high society.

Stradella was an extremely prolific composer. He created works of almost all genres and has thereby often the boundaries of musical conventions of his time exceeded.
