Alessandro Verde

Cardinal Alessandro Verde ( born March 27, 1865 in Sant 'Antimo, Naples Province, Italy, † March 29, 1958 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Alessandro Verde first attended the seminar in Aversa and then studied in Rome, the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy. He received his doctorate in theology and in civil law and canon law. On March 31, 1888, he received the sacrament of Holy Orders and, after further studies as a pastor in the Diocese of Rome. In 1897 he received the title of Pontifical private chamberlain, from 1902 he was in the service of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Consistorial. In 1905 he was prothonotary Apostolic Canons and the Patriarchal Basilica of St. John Lateran.

1915 Pope Benedict XV appointed him. Secretary of the Congregation of Rites, the 1916 Canons of the Vatican Basilica, Pope Pius XI. took Alessandro Verde on 14 December 1925 as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Santa Maria in Cosmedin in the College of Cardinals to. While retaining his title Diakonia he was elevated to cardinal priest in 1935 per hac vice. In 1939 he was appointed archpriest of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Alessandro Verde died on 29 March 1958, 93 years in Rome and was buried at his birthplace. When he died, he was the oldest cardinal of the world.
