Alessandro Vittoria

Alessandro Vittoria (* 1525 in Trento, † 1608 in Venice ) was an Italian sculptor of Mannerism.

Life

Vittoria was born in Trento in 1543 and came to Venice, where he entered the workshop Jacopo Sansovino. Vittoria adorned the building from his teaching Lord. He later competed with Sansovino to the commissions for sculpture. He worked for Andrea Palladio in particular in the Villa Barbaro in Maser and renovated in 1577 parts of the Doge's Palace. Vittoria went completely to the artistic life of Venice; he was influenced by Michelangelo and practiced as well as his contemporary Giovanni Bologna a more refined form of Mannerism. Vittoria is considered by Sansovino as the largest Venetian sculptors of the 16th century.
