Aletar is gone into operation on 7 April 1997 submarine cable for data exchange between Egypt and Syria.

Owners are Egyptian Telecom ( 46.875 %), Syrian Telecom ( 46,875 %) and the Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications (6.25 %). The cable is 787 km long and has a capacity of 5 Gbit / s It has two pairs of fiber optic cable and 8 optical amplifiers.
