Alex Callinicos

Alex Callinicos ( born 1950 in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe ) is a British Marxist intellectual and a member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP ) in the UK, which is part of the International Socialist Tendency.

Callinicos is Professor of European Studies at King's College London. Previously, he was a professor of political science at the University of York.

His father was an active member of the Greek resistance against the Nazi occupation during the Second World War. His mother comes from the English aristocracy, and is the granddaughter of the famous historian Lord Acton.
