Alex Giorgi

Alex Giorgi ( born December 9, 1957 in Brixen Alessandro Giorgi ) is an Italian former Alpine skier.

Biography

Giorgi was from the late 1970s, member of the Italian national ski team and one of the most consistent runners of his country in the technical disciplines giant slalom and slalom. The first points in a World Cup race he won on January 16, 1979 as eight of the giant slalom in Adelboden. In the following seven years, he drove in the World Cup 52 times in the points. His best season was the Olympic Winter 1983/84, which he finished in the overall World Cup ranking 9. This season, he scored the only two positions on the podium: December 20, 1983 in the combination of the 3- Tre race in Madonna di Campiglio and three months later, on 23 March 1984, in the giant slalom in Oslo.

Twice, in 1980 and 1984, he participated at the Olympic Winter Games. At the Winter Games in Sarajevo in 1984 he finished seventh in the giant slalom. 1982 and 1985 he also took part in the World Ski Championships. Best result is a tenth place in the slalom at the World Cup 1985 in Bormio. In the Italian championships he won three titles 1982-1987.

Today Giorgi operates in his home town of Selva di Val Gardena a sports shop.
