Alex Raymond

Alex Raymond ( born October 2, 1909 in New Rochelle, † September 6, 1956 ) was an American artist.

At the beginning of his career, Raymond Ghost signatory was in appearing in newspapers comic series already established artist, such as Tim Tyler 's Luck by Lyman Young, Tillie the Toiler by Russ Westover. He won the end of 1933 a competitive publisher has allowed the King Features and written by Dashiell Hammett detective comic book series Secret Agent X9 make that debuted in the newspapers on 22 January 1934. Already on 7 January of the same year, two more series Raymonds were launched: the classic science fiction comic Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim. While Raymond Secret Agent X9 1935 gave from overwork, he was responsible for Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim until he joined the army in 1944. During the Second World War served in the U.S. Marines Raymond. From 1946 his comic strip appeared daily at the master detective Rip Kirby. In 1949 he received for this series of the National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award the prize. From 1950 to 1951 he was president of the National Cartoonists Society.

Alex Raymond died in 1956 following a car accident near Westport.

He is the great uncle of actor Matt Dillon.
