Alex Tobin

Alex Tobin ( born November 3, 1965 in Adelaide ) is an Australian former football player, who acted as a defender. With 87 appearances for the Australian national team, he was Australia's record player until he was replaced by Mark Schwarzer as the most-capped player.

He played in his career only for Australian clubs: For Adelaide City, he played for 16 years and thereafter for Parramatta Power and Northern Spirit FC.

In the national team he played from 1988 to 1998, of which from 1996 as a captain. 1994 had made it to the relegation round of the qualifications of the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Australia. There they met with vice-world champions Argentina. The first leg in Sydney went from 1:1, the return in Argentininen they lost 0-1 through an own goal from Tobin. The greatest success with the national team was reaching the final of the Confederations Cup, where they defeated North and Central America champions Mexico and South American champions Uruguay and in the preliminary round World Cup winners Brazil wrested a draw for Tobin.
