Alex Varas
Alex Fabián Varas Rubio or shortly Alex Varas ( born March 26, 1976 in Santiago de Chile) is a Chilean football player.
Career
Association
His career began in 1995 at the goalkeeper CD Universidad Católica. Right away he won with CDUC the Copa Chile. In the final game this CD Cobreloa was beaten 4-2. But Varas was not used. For the following season the goalkeeper moved to the league rivals Coquimbo Unido, but then returned again to Universidad, where he was able to win the 1997 Apertura championship. 2000 transferred Varas then Audax Italiano before he signed with the Santiago Wanderers in 2001. With these, the goalkeeper won the 2001 Chilean overall championship. After four seasons Varas returned to Audax and was taken in 2005 by the Chilean giants Colo -Colo under contract. With Colo -Colo Varas won the 2006 Apertura and Clausura the. 2007, it eventually moved him to CD Universidad de Concepción, after a year moved Varas then again to the Santiago Wanderers, before he ended his career.
National
Varas had his first cap for the national team of his country on 29 March 1995 against Mexico. At the time, the former national coach Xabier Azkargorta Varas in the starting lineup of his team. The game ended 2-1 with Chile. Since then, he played seven matches, including two in the Copa America 2004 Peru. His debut in the Copa keeper on 9 July 2004 against the team from Brazil, which Chile lost 0-1. As the last of the group C Varas team already retired from after the first round.
