Alexander Dityatin

Alexander Nikolayevich Dityatin (Russian Александр Николаевич Дитятин; born August 7, 1957 in Leningrad) is a former Soviet gymnast. At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, he won eight medals.

Achievements

His first Olympic appearance was Alexander Dityatin at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. There, he won silver in the team all-around. He also qualified for two Geräteendkämpfe, won a silver medal on the rings and was sixth on pommel horse.

At the Olympic Games in 1980 led Dityatin the Soviet team to the title in the team all-around. He also qualified for all six Geräteendkämpfe. On July 25, 1980 Dityatin won six medals in one day, gold on the rings, silver on high bar, parallel bars, pommel horse and jump and a bronze medal on the floor. Dityatin along with Michael Phelps the only athlete in Olympic history to win eight medals at the Olympic Games in a year. He was also the first male athlete who is rated the highest score of 10 in an Olympic competition, namely the jump. 2004 Alexander Dityatin was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
