Alexander Frolov

Alexander Alexandrovich Frolov (Russian Александр Александрович Фролов; born June 19, 1982 in Moscow, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who is under contract with HK CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League since November 2013.

Career

Alexander Frolov began his career in 1999 with the second team of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the third division. Due to its good performance, he took his leave at the North American teams and he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round at position 20 in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000. In the same year he joined Krylia Sovetov Moscow and played for the team in 2000/ 01 in the Wysschaja League and the following year in the Super League. He became Junior World Champion in 2002.

In 2002 he finally moved to North America and was taken immediately to the NHL squad of Kings. While he won 31 points in his first year, he managed in the season 2003/ 04 The 48th NHL season 2004/ 05 was due to the lockout and Frolov returned to his home and denied the season with CSKA Moscow and HK HK Dynamo Moscow.

Prior to the 2005/06 season Frolov was indeed vertragslos, but still bound as a restricted free agent at the Los Angeles Kings. Both parties could not agree on a new contract and Frolov signed for one year at HK Avangard Omsk in the Russian Super League, but only a little later he accepted a five -year contract with a total of 14.5 million U.S. dollars and returned back Los Angeles. In February 2006 he took part in the Winter Olympics in Turin in part, but in the third game of the tournament, he injured his shoulder and had to pause almost one month. Nevertheless, the season was relatively positive for him because he was able to increase his points haul again.

At the beginning of the season 2006/07 Frolov became the best scorer of the Los Angeles Kings. In the following three seasons, the Russian scored over 50 points per season. After the 2009/10 season he was a so-called Unrestricted Free Agent and opted for an engagement with the New York Rangers, where he signed a contract for one year on 27 July 2010.
