Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly

Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly ( before 1464 *, † January 16, 1524 in Perth ) was a member of the Scottish nobility.

Alexander was the son of George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly, and his wife, the Scottish Princess Annabella, daughter of King James I. He followed his father in 1501 as Earl of Huntly.

Alexander received by the Crown substantial donations and commanded a battalion in the Battle of Flodden Field on 9 September 1513th He was one of the few Scottish nobles who survived this battle. 1517 he belonged to the Scottish regency.

The Earl was married twice: first with Joan († 1510), daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl, in a second marriage with Elizabeth († 1526), daughter of Sir Andrew Gray, 2nd Lord Gray. With his first wife he had the following children:

  • Janet, ∞ Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll
  • Jane, ∞ approximately 1506 Colin Campbell, 3rd Earl of Argyll
  • John Gordon, Lord Gordon († 1517), Master of Huntly, ∞ 1510 Margaret Stewart, daughter of King James IV; their son was George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly
