Alexander Knox

Alexander Knox ( born January 16, 1907 in Strathroy, Ontario, † April 25, 1995 in Berwick -upon- Tweed, Northumberland ) was a Canadian actor.

Life

Knox went in 1929 as a stage actor in England. In 1931 he received his first small film role, but his work in the 1930s in England focused primarily on the theatrical work. Only when he came to the U.S. in 1941, began his film career. In his first U.S. film he made as an opponent of Edward G. Robinson in The Sea Wolf the " Humphrey Van Weyden " dar. Three years later, Darryl F. Zanuck, he played in large-scale production of patriotic Wilson in the title role of the American President Woodrow Wilson, was for 1945 nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe Award.

1943 Knox married the American actress Doris Nolan ( 1916-1998 ). They remained a couple until his death in 1995 in the early 1950s came the actor blacklisted in Hollywood.; he received no role offers more and went back to England in 1954, where he was more active as a film actor. His last film role he assumed in 1985 in an American movie: In Ted Kotcheffs film Love in Montreal he played the Senator Hornby.
