Alexander Lloyd, 2nd Baron Lloyd

Alexander David Frederick Lloyd, 2nd Baron Lloyd ( * September 30, 1912; † 5 November 1985) was a British politician and banker.

Life and work

Lloyd Alexander was born in 1912 as the only son of George Lloyd, 1st Baron Lloyd and his wife Blanche Isabella Lascelles. After the death of his father, Colonial Secretary in the war Churchill's government, in 1941, he inherited his title and rank as Baron Lloyd, as well as his seat in the House of Lords. In 1942 he married Lady Victoria Jean Marjorie Mabell, a daughter of David Ogilvy, 12th Earl of Airlie. The marriage produced a son and two daughters were born.

After Lloyd had initially earned after 1945 as a banker is a sizeable fortune, he was appointed in 1951 by Winston Churchill in his second government. In this, he served first from 1952 to 1954 as Under Secretary of State at the Home Office and then from 1954 to 1955 as Under Secretary in the Colonial Office. This office kept Lloyd also in the government of Anthony Eden, in which he sat from 1955 to 1957.
