Alexander Moroz (chess player)

Olexandr Moroz ( the World Chess Federation FIDE Alexander Moroz, born January 18, 1961 in Dnipropetrovsk, † January 17, 2009 in Minsk) was a Ukrainian chess player, functionary, umpire and coach.

He was Vice- President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation ( FSHU ), President of the Chess Federation of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and Chairman of the Youth Committee of the Ukrainian Chess Federation and FIDE International Arbiter. Olexandr Moroz lived all his life in Dnipropetrovsk. Due to a serious illness he was treated in a hospital in Minsk, Belarus, where he died aged 47.

In 1992 he won the Open in Częstochowa. When Trimex Open 1995 in Pardubice, he finished second behind Sergei Movsesjan. In the Individual Championship of Ukraine in Yalta in 1996 he reached the sixth place. When Momotow Memorial 1997 Jenakijewe, a tournament with nine grandmasters at 14 participants, he was tied for first. The international chess tournament Marhanez he won in 1999. Chess with club teams he played not only in Ukraine, but also the beginning of the 1990s in Poland, Bydgoszcz there for Chemists.

Olexandr Moroz wore Since 1999 the Grand Master title. His highest Elo rating was 2530 in October 2000.
