Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Paris

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral ( Cathédrale Saint- French Alexandre Nevski ) in the French capital Paris was built 1859-1861 in neo-Byzantine style and is located in the 8th arrondissement. The architects were Kuzmin and Strohm. The church was consecrated on September 11, 1861 by the Archbishop of Reval and later Metropolitan of Moscow, Leontius. The cathedral is the seat of the Exarchate of orthodox churches of Russian tradition in Western Europe and its archbishop. Like all Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is named after the Russian National Saint Alexander Nevsky Yaroslavich. In the church there are two churches, the one holding the services in French, the other in Church Slavonic.

The building had been planned since 1847, and was done at the initiative of Joseph Vasiliev, the chaplain of the Russian Embassy in Paris was.
