Alexander of Bergamo

St. Alexander of Bergamo was a Roman soldier in the Theban Legion. He died a martyr's death after he desecrated idols in the presence of Emperor Maximian. He is the patron saint of Bergamo.

His feast is celebrated on August 26.

In connection with the transfer of the relics of Alexander the Chapel of St. Ursula in Kempraten is mentioned in the year 835 the first time: a deacon of the Abbey of Fulda was well received on his return from Italy of a beneficial acting priest in Kempraten. To thank surrendered relics of the saint founded the history of the pilgrimage site where a lot of people prayed for healing in a bodily and mental distress, such as the monk Rudolf of Fulda chronicled.
