Alexander Popov (biathlete)

Alexander Vladimirovich Popov (Russian: Александр Владимирович Попов; belarusian Аляксандр Папоў - Alyaksandr Papou; born February 22, 1965 in Tobolsk, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian- Soviet biathlete who competed for Belarus in the second half of the 1990s.

His achievements and get him in the relay and team races: At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988, he won the Soviet relay gold medal. Four years later in Albertville he won in the relay of the United team again silver. At the World Championships he won in 1989 with the USSR and Belarus in 1997 with the team ranking, 1987, 1989 and 1991, provided the silver medals in the relay race with the USSR, in 1995 and 1996 with the White Russian Season each bronze. His only individual medal was a second place in 1991 in the individual competition.

In 1998 Popov ended his career, from 1999 he headed at times, the Belarusian National Biathlon Team. He received the highest Soviet award as Sport Honored Master of Sports. Popov is a graduate of the State socio-educational Academy in Tobolsk ( Тобольская государственная социально - педагогическая академия ).
