Alexander Popov (ice hockey)
Alexander Alexandrovich Popov (Russian: Александр Александрович Попов; born August 31, 1980 in Angarsk, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who is under contract with Avangard Omsk in the Continental HK Hockey League since 1998.
Career
Alexander Popov began his career as a hockey player with the HK Avangard Omsk, for whom he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 1998/99 season. With its team of attackers was Russian Champion in the 2003/04 season for the first time. He was also in 2001 and 2006 runner-up with Omsk. At European level, Popov won the 2005 with Avangard the IIHF European Champions Cup. In the final Kärpät Oulu was knocked out of the Finnish SM- liiga. Since the 2008/ 09 season, the Russian Avangard Omsk plays with the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League.
